GeoTemporal Reasoning and Social Network Analytics for Business Intelligence

Jans Aasman, Franz Inc. (US)

Abstract

The Semantic Web carries the promise that we can use Semantic Technologies to analyze networks of people, companies and events in time and space. Many enterprise databases contain information about people, companies, and relationships between people and companies, places and events. Some common elements we see in all event databases is that an event always has a type, possibly some subtypes, one or more actors, a start time and possibly an end time, and a location specified symbolically as a place name, address, or using longitudes and latitudes.

We will show how a user can combine the current state of the art for RDFS and OWL reasoning with Allen’s Temporal Interval Logic, Geospatial components and a number of well-known Social Network Analytics using an RDF database. This is a new and interesting combination that allows for new types of Business Intelligence.
