Abstract
Business Process Management generally follows a three-phase life cycle: modelling, execution, and analysis of business processes. The traditional approach cultivated in the enterprises features several deficiencies, of which the most important is lack of the flexibility in implementation of new processes.

Business analysts present a high-level understanding of how the enterprise should be run, whereas IT experts perceive processes from a low-level implementation perspective. Bridging this gap usually requires a significant amount of manual work. Although there are several approaches proposed, like Service Oriented Architecture, still they focus on technical part of the problem and do not empower business specialist.
In this presentation we will show how the combination of Business Process Management (BPM) and Semantic Web Services (SWS) can eliminate the deficiencies of traditional BPM. The consolidated technical framework developed within SUPER project supports all BPM phases: from modelling in various notations done by business analysts, through execution with discovery and composition of services that takes into account their functional, non-functional, and behavioural aspects, and finally to analysis allowing to improve processes. The framework promotes the reusability of process parts andmakes possible ad-hoc changes of business processes, hence meeting opportunities to reduce BPM costs.
An investment into semantically describing business process models is rewarded with a reduced cost of various BPM activities as well as entirely new possibilities for querying process space.
