Obviously, with all these technologies at our disposal, the question posed seems easy to answer: Google it. And indeed, most of us tend to believe that all information is only some keystrokes away: On the Web, in abundance, where everyone can become an expert in every conceivable topic, just by consuming information. But we often forget about what is costly: time and attention. And, at least in professional settings, both usually matter.
Some of us might remember that there is an alternative: Just ask the appropriate person. But the tricky part is to identify this very person.
We present our solution to identifying such a person implemented in a novel Web platform, which will be unveiled at ESTC.
This application takes a people-centric view on information on the Web. It aggregates content produced and consumed by a person to create an approximation that persons' knowledge. Thereby, the application allows you to find knowledgeable people for your topic of interest, interact with them, and (if you like) follow their future activities.
Throughout the talk, we will point out the conceptual role and technical contribution of Semantics to answering the question posed.
Come to our talk to see our application go live.
