The European Semantic Technology Conference 2008 (ESTC2008) is structured to target the following groups:
- Enterprise Experts/CIOs - keynotes and presentations from notable companies such as SAP and BT will be provided in order to demonstrate worthy research results and mature solutions ready to be adopted by the business/ICT market.
- Market Analysts/CEOs - hear the optimistic predictions of the growing market for the application of semantic technologies, and formalize business and consulting strategies based upon proven expertise from prominent representatives from companies such as Thomson Reuters and Project10x. Particular panel sessions and round table discussions focus purely upon the business model scenarios and commercialization of semantic technologies.
- Entrepreneurs/VC - this year's program also includes a business plan contest and semantic start-up session focusing on the innovative business ideas that have evolved over the last year. Additionally, ESTC2008 allocates an exhibition tent for displaying some of the most recent successful start-up stories in fields related to semantic technologies.
- Developers and Engineers - while the application and commercialization of semantic technology remains the main focus of ESTC2008, experienced developers and software engineers are invited to attend collaborative sessions (e.g. knowledge process, social network analytics, large scale RDF) focused on the technical feasibility of proposed semantic solutions.
- Multi-domain Experts - finally, ESTC2008 dedicates several sessions to specific vertical domains of semantic technologies, such as pharmaceuticals and tourism, in order to learn from the successes and failures and to further define the specific challenges of applying semantic technologies across all knowledge-based domains.
- Researchers- this year's list of accepted presentations stems from academic institutions to industrial research groups in order to gather a broad perspective of the wide range of ongoing semantic research, with keynotes and tutorials spanning a range of topics from groups such as Yahoo! Research and W3C. ESTC2008 additionally provides the opportunity for young researchers to meet their fellow peers and for senior researchers to further define strategic research objectives (e.g. the Strategy & Future session).
